Meenakari had its roots in persia and it is said that Raja Man Singh I of Amber (r 1590-1614) invited skilled enamel workers from there towards the end of the 16th century and encouraged them to settle here. Their art of enameling was called meenakari and it was later carried forward by other members of the families of the original five meenakars. And it continues to flourish to this day.
